The unique feature of the German-Dutch euregio campus knowledge region is that it crosses borders and tries to break down the barriers associated with it. Education, research, work and life will have to be considered across borders in the future.
Knowledge region euregio campus has a good infrastructure of higher education and is characterised by the large practical colleges close to the border. The Textile and Clothing Technology department of the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Mönchengladbach is one of Europe’s largest educational institutions for young textile engineers. On the Dutch side, Fontys University of Applied Sciences offers, among other things, exciting special programmes such as International Fresh Business Management.

The euregio campus is a region of research. The emphasis is not on fundamental research, but on research tailored to the needs of users and on the transfer of knowledge into practice. In this way, innovations are created that benefit the regional economy. This is conducted at the institutes and research centres of the regional universities of applied sciences, among other places.
The knowledge region is mainly characterised by its cross-border leading sectors of logistics, agribusiness and production management. In general, the region is characterised by well-performing small and medium-sized enterprises, which include many hidden champions and internationally active companies – which are also attractive employers.
An important characteristic of knowledge regions is a creative climate that encourages ingenuity and encourages entrepreneurs to take risks.
Euregio campus has this creative climate with start-up networks, start-up funding and Universities of Applied Sciences that support their students with various schemes for start-up ideas.
The attractiveness of a city or region is determined by the diversity of its cultural, sports and leisure facilities: It is better to have a lot, small and diverse, than little and big. At first glance, urban areas appear superior to regions such as knowledge region euregio campus. But appearances can be deceptive!
