Background
With its university locations in Venlo, Mönchengladbach and Krefeld, the euregion Rhine-Meuse-North has a high-performance educational infrastructure. The barrier effect of the Dutch-German border prevents intensive cooperation in the region. At present, the Euregio Rhine-Meuse-North still benefits too little from educational organizations, students and graduates, as concluded by various studies.
Project goals
AWARENESS: The perception of the Euregion Rhine-Meuse-North as an attractive study location for students from Germany, the Netherlands and other countries should be strengthened.
COOPERATE: The advantages of studying in a border region should be identified, developed and communicated. The advantages include a cross-border exchange, learning additional language skills and the experience of and dealing with intercultural differences. A precondition for realising these opportunities is intensive cooperation between colleges on both sides of the border.
CONNECT: The attractiveness and perception of the Euregion as a possible job market and place of residence for graduates should be increased. Especially, it is important that the mutual experience of competences and needs between students / graduates and regional SMEs is promoted. This contributes to securing skilled workers in the region in the medium and long term.

Measures
The project aims to achieve its goals by working on three sets of measures:
- Common marketing concept for the euregio campus knowledge region: The conception and implementation of a common marketing concept for the Euregion Rhine-Meuse-North knowledge region.
- Intensification of cooperation between colleges: The development into a cross-border area of knowledge should also be initiated and promoted by a continuously increasing cooperation between the Euregional colleges in the area of education. Various forms of cooperation are being developed and tested step by step – from cross-border exchange of students and teachers to the preparation and implementation of cross-border study programs with double degrees.
- Reduce brain drain, generate brain gain: Studies show: The Euregion Rhine- Meuse-North is affected by an (academic) brain drain – i.e. (too) many graduates from the two major Euregional colleges tend to leave the region when looking for a first job. In cooperation with cross-border institutions, measures are to be developed and implemented that counteract this brain drain.
