Description and objectives of the project
The project “Growth and development towards a cross-border Agropole” is being carried out within the framework of the INTERREG Germany-Netherlands programme and is co-financed by the European Union, MWIDE NRW and the Province of Limburg. Partners of the Agropole project are Agrobusiness Niederrhein e.V., Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo and the Municipality of Venray.
Until June 2022, they will jointly develop a cross-border agribusiness network that promotes knowledge transfer, innovation and competitiveness in the sector. The project focuses on all players in the agribusiness value chain: suppliers, primary production, processing, service providers, trade, logistics and research & development. The project will also address the circular economy, marketing, digitalisation and the issue of a skilled workforce.
The term Agropole is composed of “agribusiness” and “metropolis”. The project work leads to the growth and development of the agro-industry in the region, which benefits the entire area and is significantly shaped by it.
To specifically promote German-Dutch cooperation and innovations in agribusiness, up to EUR 10,000 in subsidies are available for interested companies and institutions in agribusiness that work or research innovations across borders.
Added value for the region
Cross-border networking results in the acquisition and exchange of know-how and builds trust, which is a prerequisite for the readiness to cooperate. This cooperation leads to an innovation boost, which strengthens the competitiveness of the region’s agro-industry, secures and creates jobs and thus benefits society.
